Families Against Chronic Excessive Speeding (FACES 4)

The Round Lake Police Department joins forces with FACES4 in an effort to prevent deaths and injuries due to the senseless act of speeding.  The Round Lake Police Department joins over 164 other law enforcement agencies in Illinois by distributing informational palm cards to all motorists who are stopped by the police department for speeding violations.  The informational palm cards are supplied by FACES4 in cooperation with the Illinois Department of Transportation.  Further, the Round Lake Police Department hopes to expand the FACES4 message with future educational presentations in the community.

FACES4 was started by Bob and Dee Brant of Naperville and, Mike and Natalie Donovan of Glen Ellyn.  Both families’ goal is to raise public awareness of the tragic impact speeding has on lives.  These founders of FACES4 both had children killed, plus the Donovan’s had a grandchild killed, due to the senseless act of chronic speeding.  Every fatality on our roadways due to excessive speed has a face and a story to tell.  The families of these victims are here to tell the stories of their cherished loved ones.

Chief Metaxa stated, “This is a very serious issue that is often trivialized by motion pictures and television shows.  Chronic excessive speed kills.  It is my sincere hope that by joining forces with FACES4 that the Round Lake Police Department can help make a difference and possibly save lives.”

Safety Videos for loan

The Police Department has made safety videos available for loan to Village of Round Lake residents. Please call 847-546-8112 during normal business hours if you are interested in borrowing any of the following safety videos.

Stranger Safety Video

Important safety tips for parents and kids, including an up-to-date way for kids to think about "strangers." DVD running time is 42 minutes.

Julie Clark, founder of The Baby Einstein Company, and John Walsh, host of America’s Most Wanted, have created The Safe Side to give parents simple, fun and interesting ways to discuss difficult topics with their children. Stranger Safety is a laugh-out-loud video that kids will love watching again and again. As they watch, important safety tips are presented by Safe Side Superchick, the zany lead character, in ways kids can understand and remember. Following The Safe Side credo – Smart. Cool. Safe. – children are empowered to make good decisions in potentially harmful situations. The Safe Side creative team includes Julie, John, production members from the Spy Kids movies and an upbeat, danceable theme song by Gary Greene of Hootie and the Blowfish, all of whom are parents of young children.

The "Give Your Kids a Fighting Chance" video is the logical solution for keeping our kids safe. This program will ensure that your children are taught the best techniques to ward off assault and escape abduction, empowering them to take action, and to prepare them for even the most challenging situations.

Identity Crisis: Protect Your Identity Video

Identity fraud is the fastest-growing crime in America. With millions of victims and losses in the billions of dollars, it continues to be one of consumers' biggest fears. This free DVD tells the story of a couple whose credit is ruined and of the criminals who defrauded them. The DVD by High Noon Film, presented by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, also provides tips on how to protect yourself against identity fraud -- and what to do if you become a victim.

 Take the Time Video

The Challenge

Every parent has to worry about their child experimenting with alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs. But, current research has found that many parents of high school kids are unaware as to how their child could radically alter their life by simply picking up a cigarette or experimenting with pot or alcohol. Four organizations teamed up in Northern Illinois to put their heads together in an effort to find a way to start educating parents about current drug and alcohol trends and how they can make a difference in the lives of their children.

The Solution

Working closely together with two Illinois School Districts as well as Rosecrance Treatment Centers, SolidLine came up with a concept - to create a unique, youthful video that would relate not to the kids, but their parents. Through the use of current visual trends, including filming, graphics and animation that their children identify with, SolidLine created an educational video that parents could believe. We used testimonials from real kids who fell into dark times in their life from experimenting. We talked to parents of recovering teens, judges, states attorneys and teen research experts. We even recreated the typical keg party scene that many parents don’t see. Overall, the SolidLine creative team did the research to determine what these kids go through, and why parents need to notice these changes before it gets too late.

The Outcome

The DVD, vibrantly packaged with printed reference materials, is being distributed to thousands of parents throughout Illinois. In the next year, it will begin national distribution. “Hopefully the DVD will help correct some false ideas," states Cathy Cratty, Director of Student and Employee Assistance Programs at Township High School District 113. "With this educational tool we want parents to understand that ultimately they have the greatest influence over their children’s decision regarding the use of illegal substances. So we are getting to the parents when they are most likely to listen – when the kids are entering high school.”

This production has gone onto win a Davey Award and MarCom Creative Award for excellence in video production.
