Can you identify the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)? Do you move firewood? State and Federal EAB Quarantines - How will they affect you?
Find out at an EAB Homeowners Management Workshop!
EAB is a small, metallic green beetle native to Asia. Discovered in Illinois in 2006, it has since spread throughout northeast Illinois and remote locations in east central Illinois. EAB feeds only on true Ash trees. If trees go untreated, the death rate is 100 percent. If infested trees are not treated or removed, EAB will continue its destructive path moving on to other ash trees-eventually wiping out all Ash trees.
EAB-how did it get here and what can we do? Dr. Phil Nixon, University of Illinois Extension entomologist will explain the history, life cycle and control options for EAB. Session topics include:
· EAB look-alikes
· Ash tree identification
· Ash tree and ash wood disposal
· Recommended ash tree replacements
· Firewood movement and quarantine restrictions
There is no fee to attend, but reservations are required for all locations. To register, contact the University of Illinois Extension office serving as host for the event.
